Rescue Coordination Centre West & Mid Wales #40804

Mid & West Wales Emergency Call Centre;

This control centre covers the preserved counties of West Glamorgan, Dyfed & Powys in Wales. The area is largely rural with the biggest town being Swansea, this creates a challenge when resourcing incidents in the more rural areas. The area is based on the area covered by the Mid & West Wales Fire Service and the divisions are based around the 3 divisions within this service namely Northern, Southern & Western. In reality in the UK Fire & Ambulance control centres are not merged.

Districts

This control centre is split into 3 districts;
Northern - This covers the North of Dyfed and all of Powys. This is largely rural with Aberystwyth as the biggest town and a few towns in the centre.
Southern - This covers the Swansea & Neath Port Talbot areas, this is largely a urban area.
Western - This covers the South of Dyfed so Carmarthenshire & Pembrokeshire. This has some major town with Llanelli being the largest.

Callsigns

Callsigns have been made so that you can look at them and easily identify the radio that the unit is using and what the unit is.

The first element is the agency this will be A for Ambulance or F for Fire.
The second element is the radio group this will be N for Northern, S for Southern or W for Western.
The third element is the resource type for example DCA will refer to a double crewed ambulance.
The fourth element is the resource identifier, this is a unique number to that resource type.

For example a Rapid Response Vehicle in the South District will be AS-RRV12

Resources;

Emergency Ambulance Resources
CFR - Community First Responder, These are volunteer medical units how can be deployed to incidents, they are found in rural areas and for this simulation are generally based at the fire station.

Air Ambulance Resources
HEMS - Helicopter Emergency Medical Service, there are 4 helicopters within the centre and 2 of these are outside the area that the control centre cover. Only one of these helicopters provide 24 hour coverage and this is based at Cardiff.
HC - Outside of the flying hours each HEMS base will operate a rapid response car which will generally be crewed by a critical care paramedic and a doctor.

Fire Resources
The majority of fire resources operate on an on-call/retained basis. In this centre there is 1 major fire station in Swansea that provides all resources on a 24 hour basis. 2 other fire stations Haverford West in the Southern District and Aberystwyth in the Northern district operate some specialist resources 24 hours and some on an on-call basis.

LE - Light Engine, This is a retained/on-call light fire engine.
RE - Retained Standard Engine, This is a retained/on-call standard fire engine.
SE - Standard Engine, This is a full time standard fire engine.

CV - Command Van, This is a smaller unit for managing incidents.
DC - Decontamination Truck, This would deploy alongside a response to hazardous materials.
HZ - Hazmat Truck, This would deploy to deal with Hazardous Materials, such as Chemical Fires.
LA - Aerial Ladder, This allows rescue at heights.
LT - Logistics Truck, This truck provides Logistical Support.
PT - Pod Truck, This unit can convey‚ POD’s containing specialist equipment such as foam.
RC - Rescue, This unit can assist with rescues such as RTCs or Water Rescues.
TE - Heavy Rescue Tender, This unit can provide additional equipment to assist rescues.
TV - Transport Van, Used to transport staff.
UV - Utility Van

Non-Emergency Ambulance Resources
At this time the Patient Transport functionality has been removed, as this does not work well within the simulation and does not follow the model that is used in the UK.
